Ladybird designer Adam considers the power of the tooth fairy…
I’m currently working on a Peppa Pig book about the Tooth Fairy. It’s quite fitting really as my daughter is currently in that stage where she loves that little elusive fairy to turn up and give up some dosh.
However, a few weeks back, her first foray into this adventure was met with disaster. We diligently put her tooth under the pillow, as one should, but shock horror, the morning was met with a very teary girl wondering what had happened to the fairy, she just hadn’t turned up.
Now I know it must be a bind for that magical little lady to get round to all those kids, especially since the birth rate in the UK went up recently, but it caused devastation in my house. Luckily, I had a pound coin to hand to drop down my trouser leg onto the floor and then do the ‘Ooh look, it must have fallen out from under the pillow’ routine. A quick bit of slight of hand removing the envelope with said tooth in from under the pillow and job done. I did feel like a bit of a fraud though, but my daughter bought the sham and was delighted, so all’s well that ends well.
I just wondered though, how am I supposed to get my pound back from the tooth fairy now? I mean, she owes me, it’s not as if I can just ring her up, or find her on Facebook. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know…..
Peppa Pig: Tooth Fairy picture book is scheduled to be released by Ladybird in May 2011
